‘TASSIE DEVIL’ SNEAKER FREAKER x NEW BALANCE 998

As part of our marathon 10 year anniversary celebrations, we have jumped back into the cage with New Balance to produce the tough Tassie Devil, a sabre-toothed version of the under-appreciated 998 model.

As Yoda would say, ‘Theme, there is no theme!’ Indeed, our self-imposed brief was simply to knock-up a beastly colourway and smash it out of Hobart. If you don’t like purple, you’ll pass. We’ve got eggplant, violet, mauve, lilac, lavender and another un-nameable shade that looks like three-day-old chewing gum but slots perfectly into the mix, delivering total synchronicity. For a little extra vim and vigor, we added some triangular fangs to the forefoot, and they ride proudly within a lovely bone midsole with just a hint of peppery speckle. The Wolverine suede is top-notch, the shape of the toe is oh-so right and there’s a little extra stuffing in the tongue for mad comfort.

Proudly named after our native Australian marsupial the Tasmanian Devil (and with a respectful nod to the Solebox series of NB Devils), it’s a sad fact that the chunky little carnivorous critters are suffering from an epidemic of facial tumour disease that threatens their existence. Some estimates suggest up to 50% of the wild population has perished. To that end, we will be making a healthy donation to the campaign to save these unique animals.

New Balance 574 ‘Light Blue’

After giving you a look at the New Balance US574 ‘4th of July‘ pack, we give you another glimpse of yet another solid 574 color. This Spring/Summer 2012 season saw NB make use of a really fantastic looking denim blue colorway found on a 996, 998 and 1300. Although this is not the exact same blue color, it still reminded us of the DB colorway. This light blue 574 also features a suede and mesh upper, and it’s highlighted by light grey accents.

These appear to be sold out at Kith, but we’re sure you will find some luck at other NB retailers.

Burn Rubber X New Balance 580 Workforce Pack

Detroit based sneaker boutique Burn Rubber is paying tribute to the hard working folks in the blue and white collar workforce. A comfortable pair of New Balance 580 was selected as a base for this collaboration, entitled the Workforce Pack. Both sneakers share the basic color palette, however the subtle details reference its ties to the blue or white collar environment. The black, grey and white tones on the uppers are accented by caramel and beige highlights on the shoe laces, reflector panels and soles. These sneakers will be launching in their store in Detroit as well as select New Balance accounts around the world. via: SF

Beauty & Youth X Briefing X New Balance CM1700 Pack

This upcoming collaboration finds New Balance teaming up with American luggage manufacturer Briefing and Japan’s Beauty & Youth by United Arrows on a unique collection made of up sneakers and bags. The shoes come in the form of a pair of New Balance CM1700 in a classic suede and mesh composition, dressed in an appealing neutral grey colorway and accented with hits of red at the tongue and laces. The corresponding nylon waist bag and duffle take their cues from the kicks, sporting nylon exteriors in the identical grey shade and adorned with red labeling. All three pieces are slated to drop in January 2012, with pre-orders being taken now at Beauty & Youth’s ZOZOTOWN outlet.

Nonnative x New Balance CM997 Spring 2012

The collaboration between Japanese brand nonnative and New Balance continues. For early January 2012 they announce the release of the collaborative CM997 sneaker. A silhouette that one does not come across too often, it still remains to be one of our favorite. We really have to hand it to nonnative on these – the choice of color and materials is incredible. Unique, premium, unseen before, yet a perfect balance. The outcome is an elegant running shoe, featuring mesh, leather and suede on the upper. Only that hit of royal blue on the outer sole, distracts from the otherwise so clean sneaker.

The nonnative x New Balance CM997 releases on January 7th, 2012

Womens ‘Siempre Amor’ New Balance US 574

As an ode to our shared admiration of a good pair of sneakers when I was invited by New Balance to design our own US 574, the first goal was to keep things classic. Having my share of super-color-filled kicks I really wanted to make something in burgundy, which was not available but then there was that grey. A grey pair of New Balance was at some point part of many college guys wardrobes along with cargo shorts (Abercrombie if you had it like that), a t-shirt and a fitted baseball cap with the tongue curved down ( sound familiar?) . Anyway these lovelies can be seen as slightly menswear inspired with a pop of neon, the words “siempre amor” (love always) embroidered on the heel as a reminder that as a motivation, a guiding force in anything in life love always wins… More angles on the flip. Design your own here.
